The deepest cuts come late, but sizing is thinnest by then. If you wear a common boot or board size, early winter — right after the June long weekend opening — is when you get the pick of the rack.

Are snowboard boots worth buying on sale?

Yes — boot tech moves slowly, so a previous-season BOA or speed-lace boot rides much like the current one. Fit decides everything: you want firm heel hold with no pressure points, and if your toes curl hard or your heel lifts when you flex, walk away. A sale boot that doesn't fit isn't a bargain.

Can you buy kids' snow gear on sale?

All winter — kids' jackets, pants, gloves and snow boots land in the snow sale constantly, because kids outgrow gear before they wear it out. Size outerwear with a season of growing room, but keep boots true to size; a loose boot makes learning to turn at Perisher or Falls Creek much harder.
